The roaring 1920s were wild times in Jungle Terrace. The lucky residents had access to The Gangplank, a speakeasy that brought in celebrities seeking a good time in the Florida sunshine. The rumor mill tells tales of underground tunnels for smuggling booze, a secret safe, and visits from the legendary gangsta Al Capone. Tall tales aside, we do know Babe Ruth spent time at the Gangplank; his love for good food and booze is well documented. The Babe knew how to have a good time, and he spent a lot of time in the Tampa Bay Area throughout his life.
